Maxi Space designs and delivers modular space solutions that support essential services worldwide, with education a key part of its work. The company works closely with schools and education providers to create rapid-deployment learning spaces that are practical, high-quality, and built with a 20-year life guarantee.

One of the biggest advantages of modular buildings in education is speed. When schools need additional learning space, modular construction allows new classrooms, offices, and specialist facilities to be delivered with minimal disruption.

This is largely because the majority of the build happens off-site. Units are manufactured in a controlled factory environment and then installed efficiently, often outside of school hours. This approach reduces noise, limits disruption to lessons and staff routines, and helps avoid delays caused by poor weather.

Site preparation and groundworks can take place at the same time as off-site manufacturing, which helps shorten overall delivery times without adding pressure on the school. When the units arrive, installation is quick and controlled, creating a more predictable process that can work around the school day rather than interrupt it.

This approach was demonstrated at Billericay School, where part of the main building was closed due to structural issues linked to RAAC. With areas deemed unsafe and students relocated off-site, the school required a rapid solution to maintain operation in education. Maxi Space supplied eight modular classrooms; each formed of four modules and providing 640 sq ft of space. The buildings were designed to be bright and comfortable, featuring high-quality finishes and a 2.54m internal ceiling height to maximise natural light.

From initial contact to completion, the classrooms were delivered and installed within four weeks, allowing students to return to on-site learning quickly. Although intended as a temporary solution, the buildings have a 20-year design life and can be adapted, relocated, or expanded as needs evolve. The school has since requested four additional classrooms.

Space needs in education can change quickly, and modular solutions give schools a practical way to respond without committing to long, on-site construction programmes.

Flexibility is another key benefit, allowing buildings to be adapted or expanded as requirements change. Designed for everyday use, these spaces provide reliable, high-quality learning environments that support both staff and students as schools respond to evolving demands.
