Sats resit campaign gains 4,000 signatures
A petition against government plans to compel children to resit their Sats test at secondary schools has gained over 4,000 signatures.
The campaign was sparked in response to proposals from the Department for Education that would see pupils having to retake the key stage 2 tests in maths and English in Year 7, if they do not reach the government’s expected standard.
The petition argued that the move would ‘slow the secondary curriculum, create a testing culture and reinforce a language of failure inappropriate at such a young age’. It also added that maths teachers have claimed there would not be enough time to implement the changes to start in 2017.
If the petition reaches 10,000 signatures, the government must respond to the concerns raised.
