Former education secretary and schools minister Damian Hinds has been named shadow education secretary, although this may change once a new Conservative leader is elected following the resignation of Rishi Sunak.
Hinds was education secretary between 2018 and 2019 under Theresa May’s administration, and became a schools minister in November last year.
He also served on the Education Select Committee and previously chaired the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Social Mobility.
Hinds will now shadow the new education secretary Bridget Phillipson, who was appointed under Kier Starmer's Labour government.
