EB News: 20/03/2025 - 10:04
The government has announced new measures to boost AI and technology opportunities for children and young people.
A new Digital, AI and Technology Task and Finish Group made up of sector and digital experts will advise the government on what changes can be made to prepare children and young people for the jobs of the future.
The group will advise government on how the school and college education system in England can ensure that every child and young person is equipped to thrive in an AI and digital world, creating strong foundations for access to more specialist AI and digital pathways.
It will also help make the most of the opportunities to use AI and educational technology to drive better teaching and learning.
The group will report to the Education Secretary before the end of the academic year.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said: "A renewed focus on giving young people the AI and technical skills they need is a significant step on the path to making sure every child, wherever they grow up, leaves school truly ready for life and work."
The Welsh Government has agreed to continue a licensing deal which will give all learners at Welsh state schools free access to Microsoft 365 at school and at home.
Schools will play a greater role in ensuring every pupil has a clear post-16 destination, with a new approach to a guaranteed college or FE provider place available as a safety net being tested.
New data from Ofqual shows that schools and colleges across England are making progress in cyber security training, but are struggling to recover quickly from attacks when they occur.
