EB LIVE to cover real-world challenges in teacher training
The National Association of School-Based Teacher Trainers (NASBTT) will take part in key discussions on the future of teacher training at Education Business LIVE 2026, taking place on 26 March at Old Billingsgate in London.
NASBTT Head of Operations James Coleman and education consultant Phil Smith will be among the speakers at the event, contributing to sessions focused on preparing teachers for the realities of the classroom and exploring the evolving landscape of initial teacher training (ITT).
One session, titled “Preparing teachers for real-world challenges: Human skills that stick”, will examine how teacher training programmes can build trainees’ knowledge, attitudes and essential soft skills needed for classroom success. The discussion will also consider how embedding the human element within training programmes can help improve teacher retention.
Coleman will also join a panel session, “Question Time: The Future of Initial Teacher Training”, which will bring together system leaders, policy voices and practitioners to discuss how ITT is adapting to workforce pressures and ongoing reform. The panel will explore routes into teaching, classroom readiness, early career retention and which aspects of the current system should evolve or be protected.
The session will also feature expert panellist Sam Twiselton OBE, Emeritus Professor at Sheffield Hallam University.
NASBTT is a registered charity representing the interests of school-led teacher training providers in the development and implementation of national policy. Its membership includes School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) providers, Teaching School Hubs, higher education institutions involved in school-led teacher training, and other organisations engaged in the education and professional development of teachers.
