Stats reveal uptake of free school meals in Scotland
The latest statistics from the Scottish School Healthy Living Survey have been released, and revealed an increase in the uptake of free school meals.
There was a 71 per cent uptake of free school meals in 2024, seeing a slight increase from last year (70.4 per cent).
Additionally, they recorded a 55 per cent uptake of both free and paid for school meals. This is compared to last year's survey that found there was an uptake of 53.4 per cent.
The survey also examined the physical education (PE) provision for students. It found that almost all (99 per cent) primary schools and 95 per cent of secondary schools met the target level of PE provision.
It also suggested that in 2022-23, 95.9 per cent of school leavers were in positive initial destinations , and 4.1 per cent were in other destinations. The proportion of leavers in a positive destination is up 0.1pp from 95.7 per cent in 2021-22.
